Tea and Kittens

The Daily Mail and Daily Express are popular UK tabloid newspapers.

When using the internet in the UK it’s almost impossible to avoid occasionally accessing the website of one or the other, even if one finds their political and social outlook unpleasant or offensive. This is usually caused by accidental forays into the danger zone often caused by clicking on URL shortened links.

KittenBlock is a Firefox add on by Tom Royal and is designed to solve this problem. It performs one simple function: if the browser is directed to either website it will be redirected instead to a selection of photos of cups of tea and fluffy kittens from http://www.teaandkittens.co.uk

There is no override option, and there are no options to configure. The extension can be disabled in the usual manner should the user wish. Although why you would want to do that is beyond us…

Constitution of Tea

As seen on TV, Yorkshire Tea’s mission to bring Brits across America a proper brew continues! This week their tea-mobile Little Urn hits the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. And seeing as this is where the Constitution of the United States was signed, Yorkshire Tea thought they’d follow their example and write a Constitution of Tea…

But what do you think it should say?

If you visit Little Urn on their Facebook page by clicking here and add your suggestions for the Constitution of Tea (in no more than 50 words) you’ll not only have a chance to contribute to tea history, but you’ll also be in with a chance to win a year’s supply of Yorkshire Tea too! Get your comments in before midday tomorrow (Wednesday 23 February) for a chance to win.

Live & Let Chai…

Owen and Aiden are taking part in the 2011 Rickshaw Run which has so far raised over £100,000 for FRANK Water Projects to fund water filtration projects around the world, helping more than 100,000 people gain access to clean, healthy water for life. An amazing achievement.

This photo was sent to us as Owen and Aiden reached the sunny shores of Cochin in the southern Indian state of Kerala, 3000km from their start point of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

Owen said, “Our journey by rickshaw has been an amazing adventure, full of incredible people, fantastic food, breakdowns, a crash, and above all some absolutely marvellous tea! The favourite throughout most of the country is the famous Masala Chai, a delicious spiced milky brew. But of course, India being the home of our friends Assam and Darjeeling and very close to Ceylon in neighbouring Sri Lanka (to name but a few), there are plenty of tasty brews to choose from.”

If you would like to help, donations can still be made via their website: www.theadventurists.com/live-and-let-chai or their Just Giving site: www.justgiving.com/live-and-let-chai

Aiden said, “Anything you can give to help this very worthwhile cause would be greatly appreciated. After all, how can we call this a civilised world, if some unfortunate people among us don’t have access to water for a clean, pollutant free cup of tea in the morning?”

Keep up the good work guys

Tea on the open road

Our friend Martin Dorey is a man who loves life as much as he loves his tea. His first book, The Campervan Cookbook, contains an entire section devoted to elevenses and the perfect cuppa in a camper. In fact, getting a brew on is a recurring theme throughout his enormously popular celebration of life aboard a classic VW camper. What better way to greet the AA man than with a cup of steaming hot tea? Indeed.

Last summer – as a result of the book – Martin spent 5 weeks driving around the UK in search of the very best in camper van living for a new BBC2 TV series, One Man and His Camper Van.

The show follows Martin around the country as he cooks, forages, fishes and has fun in his 1970s classic camper. In total the van covered 2500 (virtually) trouble free miles on this odyssey to find the very best in camper van food. It’s an adventure filled with moules on the beach, lobsters on a cliff top, bilberry jam in a camper van and all kinds of other gorgeous goodies.

So why not join us on our big fat virtual sofa with a mug of your favourite tea to share Martin’s adventure when it hits our screens on Monday 7th February at 6.30pm. We think you might just ♥ it.

Tea Appreciation Society co-founder Shayne House will be working with Martin to extol the virtues of The Tea Appreciation Society and all it means in Martin’s new book coming soon. So watch this space…
