Laura Bean Joins Our Scene
Aug 26th
Laura Bean is performing her tea journey in early September and she would love to meet more tea lovers and have a chat with them after her show.
Laura is currently undertaking an MA in Theatre at Wimbledon College of Art and her project this year has been all about tea and the joy of connecting with strangers.
Laura’s Grandma has Alzheimer’s and as a consequence no longer tells her all of the many stories about her youth. Laura misses them – so she took it upon myself to venture out into London having tea with as many people as possible in the hope of keeping her memories alive for her. Laura has met some amazing people and now has a deep rooted love of tea, it really does help people connect on a very human level!
She is performing on:
Thursday 4th September: 20:15
Friday 5th, Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th September: 19:15
Saturday 6th September: 12:30 The show is taking place at Wimbledon College of Art, further details and directions are available on their website http://www.wimbledonmashow.com/ Also, if you’d like to check out Laura’s entertaining Blog to read a little more about her journey, the address is http://ifinallygotthistowork.blogspot.com/

Roof of the World Challenge Reach Tajikstan
Aug 17th
Our friends have finally made it to their destination of Tajikstan.
Their destination being the Sworde Teppa group HQ in Tajikstan ‘Sustainable World Development within the Environment’
SWORDE-Teppa is an international non-profit-making, non-governmental emergency reconstruction and development organization.
“SWORDE-Teppa believes that it is essential to bring a stable, prosperous and healthier way of life to the community. ”
Their goal is to assist in giving all people the opportunities that they deserve, whilst at the same time, promoting the preservation of the environment. In that sense, they are one of the few charities able to competently bridge the vital gap between humanitarian and environmental work.

Our friends at Seed Surf Co.
Aug 12th

A big thanks to our friends at seed surf co. for helping us out with our latest run of organic Tea shirts, they did us proud printing a fine selection of waterbased inks onto organic cotton T’s.
The Tea Appreciation Society are always pleased to work with like-minded individuals.
Seed Surf Co. are all about hand craftmanship, whether it’s one of Mikey’s lovingly shaped Pocket Rocket Single Fins
or a Mini Kick Tail skateboard, it’s lovely to see a piece of work handfinished rather than mass produced.
Check out Seed and Mikey’s beautiful pieces of functional art.
Treading Lightly…
Jul 26th
We acknowledge that as an ethical company we’re not perfect. We’re honest with ourselves and our customers.
What we are doing at the Tea Appreciation Society is trying to find ways to lessen our impact; we’re always thinking of ways to do things better. We believe in our products, our organic cotton and bamboo t-shirts, hemp bags, organic and herbal teas. We’re selling our products at events from a cotton canvas tent, and brewing organic and fair trade tea.
Our new festival cups arrived today,
along with our wooden spoons.
The disposable cups are an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional, petrochemical-derived products.
The lactate from which the material is produced is derived from annually renewable resources such as corn starch and other starch rich vegetable substances like sugar or wheat.
The production of these cups requires fewer fossil resources and generates fewer greenhouse gasses, in comparison to most traditional plastics.
Composting these cups will lead to complete decomposition and biodegradation of the material – turning it into water and carbon dioxide.
Environmental Conditions & Duration for Composting:
When placed in an industrial composting machine that is both efficient and aerobic – 47 days.
When placed in a warm domestic compost heap with constant humidity – 120 days.
When placed in the ground or on a small compost heap – 1.3 years.
If buried underground – 2 years.
If buried in a cold environment – 2.6 years.
When discarded in a lake or in the sea – 4 years

Thank you for supporting us in our attempts to find a better way to do business.

HMA Greg Dorey hosted a Tea Party at the British Embassy, Budapest given by volunteers Ryan Walker, Shophie Willingale and Ian Richardson who are working with the SWORDE-Teppa charity of Tajikistan.
This campaign fits well with the Embassy’s foreign policy priorities, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Agreed by the UN in 2000, the 8 MDGs aim to reduce global poverty. They include achieving universal education; reducing child mortality; combating malaria and tropical diseases; and ensuring environmental sustainability.
Among other 190 countries, Hungary has signed up to fulfil the commitments of the MDGs by 2015. But this work cannot just be left to governments. It is crucial that everyone – businesses, faith groups, professionals and charities like SWORDE-Teppa contributes towards the MDGs.
After Ryan`s short presentation about the charity, hot tea and cakes were served to the guests.

News From The Roof Of The World Rally
Jul 21st
The Roof of the World Rally sponsored by the Tea Appreciation Society is pushing back the boundaries of tea vending with a mission to the ‘Roof of the World’.
The Rally begins in Western Europe on a mission to take the great English tea house to the world. They then drive to one of the worlds most remote, unknown but beautiful countries in Central Asia handing out delicious hot and cold beverages and assorted snacks along the way.
From a hot cuppa to warm the Siberians stomachs to an iced tea for the inhabitants of the Karakum desert, nothing shall stop the mission to take the great English Tea House to the world!
The Charity: This grand adventure is of course being undertaken for an awesome cause. SWORDE-Teppa. Based at the finishing point in Tajikistan. The English and Education Centre performs amazing work and runs brilliant projects, including teaching kids a variety of subjects and giving them a real headstart in life. The Centre would benefit greatly from having a vehicle that could enable the kids to be taken out on educational day trips. And so, as part of this adventure the team endeavour to do their best and drive a minibus to them! News from the Italian leg…
My Italian is a bit shit to say the least, but I think it reads something like this… The city council member to the Equal opportunities Vittorio Di God has greeted in the morning of Saturday 19th July in the public square, the participants to “Roof of the world rally”, associated with the English non-profit association The Adventurist. The crew comprised three young people, Walter Menegazzi, Pierdomenico Baccalario and Michele Peduzzi, leaving in a Citroen Xantia (1993), destination Tagikistan; The final goal will be to donate the proceeds from the sale of the automobile, and sponsorship collected before and during the travel, to the Sworde-Teppa association to assist the poor children of the country of Tajikstan. Geronimo Stilton, rat-investigator protagonist of a fortunate series of books for boys is hitching a ride… For full story (in Italian) please visit: http://www.veronacomunica.it/leggi_news.php?id=8590 The Roof of The World Rally blog can be accessed here: http://www.roofoftheworldrally.com/

T for Tibet
Jul 18th
On 8 August the 2008 Olympics will begin in Beijing.
China promised to improve human rights if it hosted the Olympics, but the brutal crackdown on protests in Tibet clearly broke this promise.
Athletes competing at the Olympics have been told they must not mention human rights or Tibet, but no one can stop them making a simple signal that they care.
The T for Tibet hand signal is a quick, easy way to send a clear message:
It’s time to free Tibet!
Join the campaign and add your voice to our celebrity supporters and freedom lovers around the world.
